Steven Birnbaum is renowned for his whimsical-meets-classical aesthetic that has punctuated his 40-year-long career in fashion design. Today he works one-on-one with brides to create beautiful bespoke wedding gowns in his atelier utilizing couture craftsmanship and fabrics.

Steven got his creative start in the theater, where he crafted costumes for award-winning Broadway and off-Broadway productions and went on to create luxurious evening wear, where he fine- tuned his couture skills. He translates his experience from the theater and love of couture craftsmanship into dynamic, dramatic designs with a lightness and ease of movement so appreciated by his brides.

The Experience

Steven will welcome you to his Chelsea salon and you’ll browse the designer’s extensive body of work without distraction or pressure. Most importantly, you’ll work directly with Steven and his talented staff, who will help you choose or craft one of the most personal garments you’ll wear in your lifetime.

The Fitting Begins

Once a silhouette is chosen, measurements are taken and sent to the atelier, and a drape is begun. Once complete, a pattern is drafted exclusive to the bride and a first muslin cut and prepared for the first fitting.

Customization

During fittings, brides are able not only to see their gown come to life, but also be involved in customizing every detail to their body.

Luxury Materials

Our design team considers fit to be the gold standard of luxury. Our Bespoke brides are all fit in a prototype before their dress is even cut, to ensure perfect fit; and multiple fittings are organized in the final dress to make sure that the bride is content with every aspect of her gown.

The Couture Details

No detail is left to chance – and much of the placement of details, such as lace motifs or floral appliques, are pinned into place on the actual bride.
